Current Movie: Akira – April 25

About This Movie
For one night only, the 1988 cornerstone of Japanese anime, Akira, is coming to the big screen Hollywood Theatre in Portland!
Akira is credited as the primary visual influence for films like the Matrix and Inception, inventing camera movements that are largely taken for granted today in CGI-heavy film. That’s quite an achievement when in that same year, US audiences were taking in animated features including Who Framed Roger Rabbit and The Land Before Time.
Need a refresher? Here’s the quick version:
Kaneda is a bike gang leader whose close friend Tetsuo gets involved in a government secret project known as Akira. On his way to save Tetsuo, Kaneda runs into a group of anti-government activists, greedy politicians, irresponsible scientists and a powerful military leader. The confrontation sparks off Tetsuo’s supernatural power leading to bloody death, a coup attempt and the final battle in Tokyo Olympiad where Akira’s secrets were buried 30 years ago. –From IMDB
