About This MovieToggle

Pass the Parmesan, we’re dishing up some spaghetti! In a tight race, you voted for Sergio Leone’s 1968 western, Once Upon a Time in the West, showing for one night only at the Hollywood Theatre on Saturday, September 26 at 7:00PM.

In Leone’s 4th western, Paramount gave Leone some real bucks to spend compared to his previous dusty noodles. The sets and background action are much more elaborate than his three prior spaghettis, A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. But the storytelling is still dripping with marinara, with long horizon shots that transition to full-width 5-gallon brim facial closeups that streeeeeetch on before the inevitable quick draw. Leone’s films take on an amplified intensity on the big screen that just doesn’t come across in your living room.

Charles Bronson replaces Clint Eastwood as the nameless hero central character, called only “Harmonica,” for self-evident reasons. Want to know more? Here are some meatballs:

Story of a young woman, Mrs. McBain, who moves from New Orleans to frontier Utah, on the very edge of the American West. She arrives to find her new husband and family slaughtered, but by whom? The prime suspect, coffee-lover Cheyenne, befriends her and offers to go after the real killer, assassin gang leader Frank, in her honor. He is accompanied by Harmonica, a man already on a quest to get even. –From IMDB
